AFT Vice President Vicky Rae Byrd speaks at the Public Services International World Congress, Geneva, in favor of PSI Resolution #48, “THE WAR IN ISRAEL AND PALESTINE”
“Good day Sisters and Brothers, I am Vicky Rae Byrd, Vice President, American Federation of Teachers, and one of the leaders in our growing healthcare and nurse division.
The AFT embraces the resolution and encourages all to vote approval.
There can be no justification for the unspeakable atrocities and carnage carried out by Hamas against Israelis a week ago.
It is important that PSI stands shoulder to shoulder in the global labor movement in condemning these inhumane atrocities and stand resolute against terrorism and violence.
We decry the humanitarian crisis and loss of lives in Gaza resulting from Israel’s response. AFT calls for a swift diplomatic resolution to the current conflict to end the bloodshed of innocent civilians, and to promote a long-lasting peace for the future.
In closing, we encourage the new PSI leadership to carry out -- when the situation allows -- Resolution #50 passed in the 2017 Congress.”
